What Causes Your Holiday Stress?

"It's the most wonderful time of the year", as the song goes.  It also may be the most stressful.  Over the next few weeks, my newsletter will provide tips, clues and insight on how you can cope with 'holiday stress', the 'holiday blues' or whatever brings you down during the 'most wonderful time of the year'.

According to the "Stressless Holidays Survey," when it comes to holiday stress, 36 percent of people say shopping for gifts stresses them out the most . . . followed by holiday travel, and entertaining family and friends.

What is it about holiday shopping that stresses people the most?  Four out of 10 people admit not knowing what to buy or where to buy it is their main source of stress.  More than a third of those who responded say braving the mall crowds, (I call it getting 'mauled') causes the most stress . . . while 11 percent claim not having enough time to shop for a gift is the most stressful.

The survey also found that . . . when it comes to holiday shopping . . . 'Mars' and 'Venus ' aren't always aligned.  Spending money is the number-one source of holiday stress for women questioned . . . 42 percent versus 31 percent of men polled.  But even though one in seven women polled say sticking to a budget helps them to reduce the stress of purchasing holiday gifts, almost half - 47 percent - admit they spend more than their budget.

So, what does it all mean?

It means that you'll have to check out my next edition 'Dealing With Holiday Stress', where I continue exploring the issues, and offering tips and recommendations from other professionals.

Oh, I almost forgot, please send me an email if you want to cover what stresses you during the Holidays.

A Tip from the ThinkTank --

Aren't Internet search engines great?  I love Google the best, www.google.com, and not just because I can look up information, say -- Brian Howe - Georgia -- scroll down a little and find a link to my website www.coachbrian.com, but because I use it to gather information for my newsletter.  Like these tips. Last month, I discovered it was National Fire Prevention Month, so I decided to try and find out what 'month' November happened to be.  I simply typed in "November is" and in seconds ZAP, ZOWIE, here's what Google returned:

November is:

  • National Adoption Awareness Month
  • National Native American Month
  • National Diabetes Month
  • Aviation History Month
  • Lung Cancer Awareness Month
  • National Public Interest Month
  • International Discover Your Passion Month
  • National Family Caregiver Month
  • National Alzheimer Disease Awareness Month
  • Mediation Month
  • National Novel Writing Month

I was going to provide you with more free value and create an Internet link to their websites, but time wasn't on my side.  For more information, just go to www.google.com and type in "November is" (including the quotes), and check out the links provided by Google.
