| Cyber Skill #11 Your first web page in 60 seconds |

Introduction If you already know html/FrontPage, you won't need this lesson. But for the 99.5% of folks who don't know how to create a web page, I'll show you how you can have your first little web page crafted in 60 seconds or less. (Yes, there are more steps to transfer your html and gif files to the server, but that's outlined in another lesson.) There is SO much mystery and fear about creating a web page that I figured I would cut through all of that with this lesson. Before you start You'll need Front Page or other HTML creation software. You can buy Microsoft Front Page 2002 for around $159.99, sometimes less (an upgrade is about $89.00). There are free versions of HTML creation software but this lesson is based on Front Page. (Note: There used to be something called Front Page Express that came free with Windows 95 but that's been discontinued as well as the FrontPage trial versions from the Microsoft website.) You'll also need to have a jpg or gif image file on your hard drive so that you can insert it in your new web page. Any jpg or gif is fine. If you're not sure where one is, go to the very bottom left of your screen and click on Start like this... Start>Find>Files or Folders>Named and type in *.gif or *.jpg (The * (asterisk) tells your computer to find any file that ends in .gi (or .jpg)) Step
1
Step 5 Insert a graphic Put cursor on right box (called a cell) of the table and then select Insert>Picture>From File When presented with your hard drive, find the graphic you want to insert (.gif or .jpg) and click OK. This inserts the image into your page. ![]() After you Click OK, you will see something like this (with your image inserted, not ours)
Step 6 File>Save As Save your file (i.e., test.html) Step 7 Preview your web page Click Preview at bottom of the screen ![]() You're done! Creating a basic web page IS this easy. Once you get this part done, you can learn the many ways to make your webpage great looking. But the purpose of this lesson is to help you get through the blocks of getting your first web page created. Optional You can highlight the text and change the color, size, font, etc. using the tool bar at the top of Front Page -- very similar to how Word works. If you want to play around with an already-created web page that someone else created, simply open up that HTML file via Front Page and tweak away!
