Cyber Skill #8
Saving a website or web page.

Why do people hire a coach trained professional coaches?

Just like athletes and performers, people hire coaches to help them:

·         Assess interests, talents and needs

·         Go beyond what they can do alone

·         Achieve business and personal goals

·         Solve a problem

·         Improve relationships

·         Gain clarity and focus

·         Obtain a fresh perspective

·         Change attitudes and behaviors

·         Accelerate progress and results

·         Discover untapped possibilities

Hint: Brian is a graduate of Coach University, one of the leading training institutions for professional coaches.

Cyber Skill #8

Saving a website or web page.

Introduction
This is a simple skill, but one that really comes in handy because sometimes you will want to save -- to your hard drive -- a website or a web page that you're visiting.  Why would you want to do this?
--Because you want to have a record of the site/page exactly as it is currently displayed.
--Because you want to save the site/page because you like its design and you want to be able to play around with an HTML file later, vs just a printed-out version.
--Because you want to view a web page or a website without having to be connected to the internet.
--Because you want to grab just the text of a web page and save it quickly and easily.

FYI, most web browsers let you save part or all of a website (see options below).

Step 1
Launch Internet Explorer

Step 2
Go to a webpage that you want to download

Step 3
Select File>Save as

Step 4
Click on Save as type: (circled in red below)
You can save the web page in one of four ways.

Option 1.
Web Page, complete
This saves all of the files you need to display this page offline, including text, graphics, frames and style sheets.

Option 2.
Web Archive, single file
This allows you to send the current page to a friend via email as a specially saved file.  This option only works if you have Outlook.

Option 3.
Web Page, HTML only

This saves the single web page you are viewing, but does not include any graphics, sounds or other imbedded files.  So, if there is an image or diagram that you want to be able to see later, don't use this option (use option 1 instead)

Option 4.
Text File
This saves the one page you're viewing in text-only format (good for grabbing information off the page without having to "un-format" it).

Step 5
Decide where you want to save your file(s)
Click on the folder/arrow icon above to change directories.

Step 6
Click Save
You are done!  You can view these files with any web browser or using Front Page.

Another Option...
If you want to save more than just a single web page, you'll need to follow another process.

Step 1
Launch Internet Explorer

Step 2
Go to a website that you want to download

Step 3
Select Favorites>Add to Favorites
You will then be presented with this dialog box.  Check the box next to Make available offline (circled in red below).  Then click on Customize and let the wizard walk you through the process.  There you will be able to decide how much of the website and web links you wish to save.
