Cyber Skill #5
Having multiple identities in email.

I hope everyone had a fun, relaxing and safe Holiday weekend.  A quick reminder about the course -- you can choose to save each of these lessons in your email program, or you can always go to my website homepage, www.coachbrian.com and scroll down to the CyberSkills button, click on it and this will link you to a webpage with all the lessons I've posted on the website.  Only those highlighted in blue will be viewable, though.  (I don't want anyone getting ahead of the daily lessons!)

Cyber Skill #5
Having multiple identities in email.

Introduction
It is not unusual to want to maintain separate identities on line.   Suppose you work as a coach and you also work for a company and you want to send emails from each of your 'hats.'  There is an easy way to send from your various identities.  Some folks have 4-10 email identities, and if you're a VA (Virtual Assistant) you may have 20 or 30 identities so that your email appears as if it's coming directly 'from' your client.

Here's what you do...

Step 1
Open Outlook

Step 2
Select Tools

Step 3
Go to Accounts

Step 4
Click on the Mail tab

Step 5
Click on the Add button

Step 6

Select mail, enter

Step 7
Type in the actual name you want people to see when you send them an email.
Examples: Your Perfect Coach or Bob Smith, CEO or Smith Enterprises.

Step 8

Select whether you have an account set up already or select to get one
Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) will usually have given you your full email address when you signed up for their service, and/or told you of their home page where you can get additional email addresses.

Or, if you prefer to get a free email account at hotmail.com or yahoo.com you can make this choice now and click on the button you prefer.

Step 9

Click next

Step 10
Enter the Server Name, incoming and outgoing mail.
If you do not know these, you can go to Tools>>accounts>>Select a current email address>>Properties>>Servers and use the same incoming/outgoing server information for your new email address.

Step 11
Click next

Step 12
Enter your password and click Next

Step 13
When prompted, click Finish.

How to use your new identities...
How to send from the correct 'identity."

Step 1.
Open a fresh, blank, new email.

Step 2.
Click to view your email identities.
On the upper left, just to the right of the word SEND, you'll see a little triangle/arrow. (see below)  Click and hold this.

Step 3.
Select your identity
When you hold down the arrow, you will see a list of your 'identities' pop up. Select the one you want to send this email 'from.'  (These are my various identities.)

Step 4.
Write and send your email.
It will be 'from' you!  (This would come in handy for Sybil.)
